The CHIA is responsible for the governance, regulation and organisation of the China Grand National Horseracing and Belt and Road Grand Racing, the China Derby, the China Cup, the China Breeders' Cup, and other racing events, as well as managing and running the International Stud Book Committee recognised China Stud Book, and publishing the China Racing Annual Report and the Chinese Stud Book.

Besides, the CHIA undertakes, as delegated by business guiding authorities under MARA, administrative duties related to horse registration, feeds and medicine, equine veterinarians, testing for prohibited substances in horses, especially for sport horses and racehorses.
